Our chess league is organized by:
- Ken Meinecke (Maumee Valley Country Day School)
- Phil Kelley (Central Catholic)
- Jonathan Doran (Sylvania Southview)
The Greater Toledo High School Chess League has 16 area schools represented in four divisions. Four of these schools also field a second team! The regular season normally runs in November and December with matches on Mondays and Wednesdays. The top division winners participate in a round robin style playoff tournament to determine the High School City champions.
The Greater Toledo Area High School Chess League uses a rating system independant of the USCF rating system. Ratings are updated after each individual match and are constantly changing.
In October, we host the annual Pokrzywa Team Tournament, a team swiss system event. And in January, we host the Beach Tournament, an annual event to determine the individual High School Champion for the city league.
If there is any interest for an area high school to participate in the Greater Toledo Area High School Chess League, you may submit a registration form (on the left) to us or contact Jonathan Doran for more information.
