March 7, the Ohio Elementary State Championships was held at the Bowling Green Student Union for the second year. This year, the weather was good and we drew over 200 players from across the state. I am amazed at the work and preparation needed to make one of these events a success. I can only imagine something on the national level.
This year’s K-6 State Champion is Kevin Du from Fort Island, winning all five of his games. The Montessori School of Bowling Green comfortably took first place as the State Team Champions. I don’t have a count on how many of these titles they have, but many as a K-6 as well as individual grade levels.
In the Primary K-3 section, Andrew Zhang was the clear rating favorite (around 500 points) and also the player to take the title 5-0. His school, Chapman, was also the team title winners.
Full results of the tournament are available in the Elementary results section and pictures are available under the Gallery section of the website. It is a great experience to be apart of this event and I hope to see all of these players battle again next year.
